The portfolios of the ministers of the New Delhi government were announced after a cabinet meeting this evening. The ministries have been divided between the Chief Minister and her six cabinet colleagues, with Rekha Gupta and Parvesh Verma taking on significant responsibilities. The key portfolio of water has been assigned to Mr. Verma, the son of former Chief Minister Saheb Singh Verma. He will also manage the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, which is responsible for the cleanup of the Yamuna river, and Kapil Mishra has been allotted the law department.

Ms. Gupta will be handling at least 10 portfolios, and any others yet to be distributed, according to the government. The most significant portfolio under her management is finance. While there were initial expectations that she might handle the home department, it has been allocated to Ashish Sood, who will be managing seven departments.

The Chief Minister's other responsibilities include the Revenue, General Administration, Information and Public Relations, Vigilance, Land and Building, and Women and Child Development portfolios.

A former vice-president of the BJP's Delhi unit, Mr. Sood's notable responsibilities include two portfolios that gained prominence during the Aam Aadmi Party's tenure—Education, which was a flagship sector for AAP, and the power department, which was notable for AAP's substantial power subsidy.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the BJP's Sikh face in Delhi, has been assigned the Food and Supplies, Forest and Environment, and Industries portfolios. As the Industries Minister, he is expected to contribute to the Yamuna cleanup, given the role industrial effluents play in the river's pollution.

Kapil Misra, who previously served as a minister in Arvind Kejriwal's government before joining the BJP, is back in the Delhi cabinet. In addition to the law and justice department, he will oversee the Labour, Art and Culture, Language, and Tourism portfolios.

Ravinder Singh is assigned to the Social Welfare, SC and ST Welfare, Cooperative, and Elections portfolios.
